As a longtime sponsor of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, Sealy & Company has had the opportunity to support one of the PGA TOUR’s most recognized events while building relationships with clients, partners, and industry peers. What many spectators may not realize, however, is that behind the tournament stands one of Dallas’ most respected civic organizations—an organization whose impact extends far beyond the competition on the course.
Founded in 1920, the Salesmanship Club of Dallas has spent more than a century bringing together business and community leaders committed to improving the lives of children and families. Membership in the Club is highly selective, with prospective members sponsored and vetted through a rigorous nomination and approval process. The organization’s roster includes many of North Texas’ most accomplished executives, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders who share a commitment to service, philanthropy, and community leadership.
Among the Club’s active members are two leaders from Sealy & Company: Scott P. Sealy, Jr., Chief Investment Officer, and Michael P. Sealy, Director of Corporate Strategy.
The People Behind the Red Pants
For many attendees, the most recognizable symbol of the Salesmanship Club is its trademark red pants, worn by members throughout tournament week. While the attire has become synonymous with THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, it represents something much more meaningful than a tournament tradition.
The red pants symbolize the thousands of volunteer hours contributed by Club members each year in support of the tournament and the charitable mission it serves. Throughout the week, members can be found supporting nearly every aspect of tournament operations, from hospitality and guest services to logistics, transportation, sponsorship activities, and on-course support. Their hands-on involvement has helped make THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson one of the PGA TOUR’s most successful and enduring events.
“The red pants may be what people notice first, but what they represent is a commitment to service,” said Scott P. Sealy, Jr. “The members of the Salesmanship Club dedicate an incredible amount of time and energy to supporting an organization that has been making a difference in our community for more than 100 years.”
The Mission Behind the Tournament
The Salesmanship Club became host of the Byron Nelson tournament in 1968, transforming what was already a premier golf event into one of the most successful charitable tournaments on the PGA TOUR. Since then, the tournament has generated hundreds of millions of dollars to support the Club’s philanthropic mission.
That mission is carried out through Momentous Institute, a nationally recognized organization founded and supported by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. Established to help children and families achieve their full potential, Momentous Institute has become a leader in mental health services, education, training, and research.
Today, Momentous Institute provides innovative mental health services, education programs, counseling resources, family support, professional development, and research initiatives that impact thousands of children, families, educators, and mental health professionals each year. Its work focuses on strengthening social-emotional health and helping young people build the skills necessary to thrive both in school and in life.
The relationship between the Salesmanship Club and Momentous Institute remains central to the organization’s purpose and is one of the reasons THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson is recognized as more than a premier golf tournament. The event serves as a platform to support programs that continue creating meaningful and lasting change throughout North Texas and beyond.
“What makes the Salesmanship Club unique is that the tournament is not the end goal—it’s the vehicle that supports a much larger mission,” said Michael P. Sealy. “The real impact can be seen in the children, families, and communities served by Momentous Institute every day.”
A Meaningful Connection
As Sealy & Company continues its sponsorship of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, it is especially meaningful to support an event while also having members of our own leadership team actively involved with the organization behind it.
Scott and Michael Sealy’s participation reflects Sealy & Company’s longstanding commitment to leadership, community involvement, and creating lasting impact beyond business. Their involvement with the Salesmanship Club provides a direct connection to an organization that has spent more than a century serving others and strengthening communities.
The work of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas serves as a reminder that the tournament’s greatest impact is measured not only on the leaderboard, but in the lives it helps change. Behind every red pair of pants is a volunteer, a leader, and a commitment to ensuring that children and families have the support and opportunities they need to succeed.
